March 1, 2022: Blind Taste Test

We conducted a blind taste test! First, participants received a set of labelled samples to taste. Then, participants received unlabeled samples and had to identify the correct label with their eyes closed. Categories included chocolate, apples, candy, and olives. Chocolate prizes were distributed to those with the most accurate taste buds.

November 11, 2021: Group Lunch

We met for a group outdoor lunch outside of the newly built Chen Institute building. A mix of postdocs and grad students (from many different years) were present.

September 24, 2021: Social + Lawn Games

We welcomed first- and second-year students with an in-person social in front of Steele House, featuring cornhole, ring toss, and other lawn games.

June 15, 2021: Lunch with Dr. Franca Hoffmann

We met with soon-to-be Professor Franca Hoffmann to chat about her unique career trajectory and her work with math education programs around the world. Franca was a Von Karman Postdoc at Caltech from 2017-2020, and will be joining as a faculty member in Fall 2021.

March 23, 2021: Dinner with Professor Katie Bouman

We met with Professor Katie Bouman to chat about her work on computational imaging and her thoughts on research and career paths. Katie joined Caltech as a faculty member in Fall 2019.

December 2, 2020: Group Dinner + Games

We enjoyed free food, chatted about random topics, and played several rounds of Taboo.
